Help! My Child Has a Fever and Cannot Go to Daycare — What Should I Do?

This is a familiar scenario for many parents: your child wakes up with a warm forehead, a runny nose, or seems “off”—and suddenly, daycare or school is no longer an option. Or, you receive an unexpected call mid-day from your child’s teacher – they have a fever and need to go home.

When your child has a fever, it can be stressful figuring out what to do next, especially if you need to get to work and they are not feeling well.

Emerson Health Urgent Care is here to help.

We understand how unpredictable childhood illnesses are. Our experienced and compassionate providers are here to help — fast. If your child has a fever, request a convenient appointment on any day of the week. We will evaluate their symptoms and recommend the best next steps. Whether it is a virus like the common cold, flu, COVID, strep throat, an ear infection, or something else, our expert team will diagnose and treat a wide range of illnesses.

We also offer convenient, on-site testing, including strep, flu, and COVID-19, and provide a doctor’s note for daycare or school.

No appointment is needed — you can simply walk in. If you prefer to reserve a spot, we can do that too. We offer convenient hours, including evenings and weekends, and virtual appointments from the comfort of your home, so care is available when it is best for you and your family.
When your little one is under the weather, you should not have to worry alone. Emerson Health Urgent Care will help you feel supported, educated, and prepared — so both you and your child can get back to your routine as fast as possible.

Help! My Child Got Hurt at Sports Practice — What Should I Do?

Whether your child is on the soccer field, basketball court, or playing hard at recess, bumps and sprains are part of the game. However, when they come home limping, holding their arm, or complaining of pain, it can be hard to know if they require medical attention — or just some rest and ice.

Emerson Health Urgent Care is here to help.
Our team treats sprains, strains, bruises, and minor fractures every day. If your child has the following symptoms, we recommend coming to see us for an evaluation:

  • Pain
  • Inability to put weight on a limb
  • Swelling or a limited range of motion

The sooner we assess the injury, the sooner proper treatment begins, to get your child back to playing the sports they love.

At Emerson Health Urgent Care, we offer on-site X-rays to check for fractures or joint injuries quickly. Our experienced providers will explain what is going on, answer your questions, and help your child start to heal. Whether it is a brace, wrap, or fast access to an Emerson Health orthopedic expert for follow-up care, we will ensure you leave with a clear plan to help your child get back to playing pain-free.

No appointment is needed — you can simply walk in. If you prefer to reserve a spot, we can do that too. We offer convenient hours, including evenings and weekends, and virtual appointments from the comfort of your home, so care is available when it is best for you and your family.
Do not wait it out or guess, especially when your child’s mobility, comfort, and sports season are on the line. Emerson Health Urgent Care is here to provide the expert, compassionate care your child needs to get back in the game.

Help! I Have a Cut — Do I Need Stitches or Just a Bandage?

Accidents happen — whether you cut yourself chopping vegetables, your child fell on the playground, or someone got nicked doing crafts. When you are dealing with a cut or laceration, it can be hard to know what to do next. Does it need stitches? Can you treat it at home? How do you stop the bleeding? What if it is infected?

Emerson Health Urgent Care is here to help.

Our experienced medical team treats cuts and lacerations of all kinds, including those that are bleeding heavily or in a tricky spot like the face or hand. Here are some signs to watch for. If you experience any of these, come see us at Urgent Care, or reserve a spot at emersonurgentcare.org:

  • The cut is deep, or the edges are gaping
  • Bleeding does not stop after applying pressure for 10 minutes
  • There is debris, such as dirt or glass, in the wound
  • The injury is from a dirty or rusty object
  • You are not sure if your tetanus shot is up-to-date

At Emerson Health Urgent Care, we clean and close wounds with stitches, surgical glue, or adhesive strips, depending on what is best for the injury. We also provide tetanus shots, antibiotics if needed, and detailed instructions for care and healing. If additional care is required, we provide fast access to an Emerson Health specialist, such as a plastic surgeon, for follow-up care.

No appointment is needed — you can simply walk in. If you prefer to reserve a spot, we can do that too. We offer convenient hours, including evenings and weekends, and virtual appointments from the comfort of your home, so care is available when it is best for you and your family.
