The Benefits of a Pediatric Specialist

Why Choose a Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist?

Children’s bones, joints, and muscles are different from adults’, and so are their injuries and recoveries. Our pediatric orthopedic surgeon is trained to examine and treat children in a way that helps them feel relaxed and comfortable. They also understand how to communicate with concerned parents and make informed diagnoses for younger children who may not be able to fully express their symptoms.

Our pediatric specialist collaborates with Emerson Hospital’s orthopedic rehabilitation team, which includes expert physical and occupational therapists who specialize in treating children and young athletes. Many of our therapists have additional training in sport-specific rehabilitation, helping young dancers, gymnasts, weightlifters, baseball and softball players, and others recover safely and return to activity stronger.

Safe, Child-Friendly Imaging

When X-rays are needed, we follow the national “Image Gently” guidelines, ensuring the lowest possible radiation dose for children. We also limit the number of images taken over the course of treatment to prioritize safety.

Support for Your Child and Family

At Emerson Hospital, we recognize that medical visits can feel overwhelming for children. That is why our Pediatric Intervention Team (PIT) is available to support families in the emergency department, operating room, and pediatric floor. They help children feel at ease before exams, during procedures, and throughout their hospital stay.
