Special Care Nursery

At Emerson, we take great pride in providing exceptional care for newborns who require additional medical attention. Our Level II Special Care Nursery is the only one of its kind in the area and offers advanced care for premature infants, low birth weight babies, and those with medical complications.

Our Special Care Nursery Provides:

  • Care for Premature Infants: Comprehensive care for babies born earlier than 37 weeks.
  • Feeding and Growth Support: Assistance with feeding difficulties and support for infants with low birth weight or failure to thrive.
  • Medical Monitoring: Close observation and treatment for infants with medical conditions that require ongoing monitoring, such as respiratory or heart issues.
  • Multiple Births: Specialized care for twins, triplets, and other multiple births.

Our team, led by a Massachusetts General Hospital neonatologist, ensures the highest level of care. We also have a pediatric hospitalist on duty 24/7 to respond to any immediate needs.

If your baby needs more advanced care, our nursery is also equipped to stabilize and manage babies who need transfer to a Level III facility. Many of these infants return to Emerson for ongoing care and recovery closer to home.
