Compassionate Care for Hospitalized Patients

If you are on an inpatient unit at Emerson Hospital, a hospitalist – a doctor who specializes in treating hospitalized patients – will oversee your care. They are on-site 24/7 to monitor your condition, coordinate treatment, and communicate with your care team.

Hospitalist’s Role

Hospitalists focus exclusively on inpatient care, ensuring seamless coordination across all hospital departments.

  • They are available around the clock. They are always on-site to respond to emergencies and answer questions.
  • Work as a team – Sharing information to provide continuous, well-coordinated care.
  • Collaborate with specialists – Ensuring timely tests, treatments, and consultations.
  • Communicate with your primary care doctor – Update them on your treatment and progress for a smooth transition home.
  • Help with follow-up care – If you do not have a primary care doctor, we can connect you with an Emerson physician.

Pediatric Hospitalists

If we must admit your child to an inpatient unit, our board-certified pediatric hospitalists will manage their care. They:

  • Provide expert treatment for a wide range of childhood illnesses.
  • Communicate with your child’s regular pediatrician.
  • Coordinate care with specialists and support services, including our Pediatric Intervention team.
  • They are available to answer your questions at any time.

A Smooth Transition Home—Hospitalists ensure you or your child can safely return home with a clear follow-up care plan. They can also help connect you with an Emerson primary care provider if needed.
