Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.

Can I bring my baby to my appointment?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your baby. However, you may find it easier to focus on your treatment if you arrange childcare during your visit.

How long does treatment take?
Every patient is different. Most people see improvement after six to twelve visits.

Do I need a prescription to start pelvic floor physical therapy?
Yes, we request a prescription from your doctor for all patients.

Do I have to do an internal exam?
No, you do not have to. We can perform an external exam instead, but an internal exam provides the most accurate information about your pelvic floor muscles. This helps us create the most effective treatment plan and ensures exercises will not worsen your symptoms.

Can I come to my appointment during my period?
Yes, you can. If you prefer to avoid certain parts of the treatment during menstruation, let us know, and we will adjust accordingly.

At Emerson Health, we are committed to helping you feel your best. Contact us today to learn more about our pelvic health services or to schedule an appointment.
