Endoscopy

A colonoscopy is a procedure used to examine the inner lining of the colon and rectum to screen for colon cancer and detect other conditions, such as polyps, inflammation, and infections. During the procedure, a flexible tube with a camera (colonoscope) is inserted into the rectum, allowing doctors to inspect the entire colon closely. If necessary, we will take tissue samples (biopsies) or remove polyps to prevent future complications.

Upper endoscopy, also known as esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), allows doctors to examine the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine (duodenum) to investigate symptoms such as chronic heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, or abdominal pain. It can help diagnose conditions like ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), tumors, and bleeding. The endoscope provides high-definition images, assisting doctors to diagnose and treat these issues accurately.

Bronchoscopy is a procedure that examines the airways and lungs to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the respiratory system. During the procedure, a bronchoscope (a flexible tube with a camera) is inserted through the nose or mouth and into the lungs to investigate symptoms like persistent cough, shortness of breath, or coughing up blood, and to identify conditions such as infections, blockages, or tumors. Sometimes, we also use a bronchoscopy to collect tissue samples or remove obstructions.

Capsule endoscopy is a non-invasive procedure that involves swallowing a small, pill-sized camera. The camera takes high-resolution images of the small intestine as it travels through the digestive system. This procedure often investigates unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms, such as bleeding or pain, that we cannot diagnose using traditional endoscopic techniques. Capsule endoscopy provides detailed pictures of areas that are difficult to reach with a regular endoscope, helping doctors diagnose conditions like Crohn’s disease, bleeding sources, and tumors.

This procedure examines the lower part of the colon and rectum, similar to a colonoscopy but only focusing on the sigmoid colon. We perform this procedure to screen for colon cancer or evaluate symptoms like bleeding or changes in bowel habits.

Endoscopic ultrasound combines endoscopy and ultrasound to examine the digestive tract and surrounding organs. It helps diagnose conditions like cancer, pancreatitis, and tumors and helps obtain tissue samples.
