Pumpkin Carving Safety Tips

Since she was little, Joanna Ng-Glazier, MD, FACS — plastic surgeon at Emerson Health Plastic Surgery — has enjoyed Halloween. She loves turning pumpkins into delicious seeds, pies, and especially creative jack-o’-lanterns. Here are some of her best tips for staying safe while carving a pumpkin.
- Be very careful with the tools — even blunt tips can cause injury.
- Be aware of where your tools are facing at all times.
- Use electric candles to prevent fire hazards.
Above all, she encourages everyone to have fun, be creative, and ensure an adult supervises children throughout the carving experience!
