What to Expect
Preparing for Your Visit
- What to Bring: Pack pajamas, robe, slippers, toiletries, and a small amount of cash. Avoid bringing valuables or large sums of money.
- Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing and low-heeled shoes for discharge.
- Electronics: Battery-operated devices like laptops and MP3 players are allowed. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hospital.
- Tobacco-Free Campus: Smoking and tobacco use are prohibited across all hospital grounds, including vehicles on campus.
During Your Visit
- Hospitalists: Our internal medicine physicians are available 24/7 to oversee your care and communicate with your primary doctor.
- Meals: Enjoy same-day or room-service meal options tailored to your dietary needs. Complimentary meals are available for visiting spouses, partners, or parents staying with hospitalized children.
- Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and unlimited local phone calls are available in all rooms.
- Patient Representatives: Trained staff are here to advocate for your needs and answer questions during your stay.
- Spiritual Care: Chaplains offer emotional and spiritual support. Our chapel is open 24/7 for prayer, meditation, or reflection.
After Your Visit
- Discharge Planning: A care management team will work with you to arrange post-hospital services such as home care, skilled nursing, or therapy.
- Follow-Up Support: Some patients may receive calls or visits from the care management team to ensure post-discharge needs are met.

- Programs for Specific Needs: Patients undergoing cancer treatment or cardiac rehabilitation receive tailored nutritional guidance.
After Your Visit
- Discharge Instructions: Receive clear instructions to support your recovery at home.
- Support Services: Access resources such as nutritional counseling or community wellness programs.
Preparing for Your Surgery
- Pre-Surgery Instructions: Follow your physician’s food, medication, and anesthesia guidelines.
- Drop-Off Location: For day surgery, use the Clough Surgical Center entrance. Parking is available in the adjacent garage.
- Anesthesia Consultation: Before surgery, you will meet with your anesthesiologist to discuss your care.
During Your Surgery
- Family Liaison: Loved ones will receive updates on your progress from our family liaison team.
- Recovery: After surgery, patients are cared for in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) before moving to a recovery room or hospital room if necessary.
After Your Surgery
- Discharge Plan: You will receive detailed instructions regarding medication dosage, follow-up care, and recovery at home.
- Support Services: Access home care, rehabilitation, or therapy as part of your post-surgery recovery plan.
- Dementia Buddies: Specially trained volunteers engage patients with dementia to reduce anxiety and provide caregivers with respite.
- Nutrition Services: Registered dietitians offer personalized care for inpatients, outpatients, and those participating in community programs.
- Ethics Committee: Provides confidential support for ethical concerns such as end-of-life care or treatment decisions. Call 978-287-3170 for more information.
- Spiritual Care: Chaplains provide emotional and spiritual support. Request a chaplain at extension 3015 or visit our chapel on the third floor.
