Donor Profile: the Mahapatra Family
A Legacy of Support and Exceptional Care: Meet the Mahapatra’s
For more than two decades, Amaresh and Sadhana Mahapatra have been steadfast supporters of Emerson Hospital, giving back to the community they have called home since 1986. Their commitment to Emerson reflects their deep appreciation for the hospital’s role in providing high-quality, compassionate care. Amaresh has also served as a corporator for over 20 years and was a member of Emerson’s Board of Directors for nearly ten years.
A Family’s Lifelong Connection to Emerson
The couple moved to Acton when their two children were young, seeking a friendly community where they could raise their family. Shortly after settling in, their youngest child was born at Emerson Hospital—an experience that left a lasting impression.
“Our first experience with Emerson was the birth of our youngest child in 1987,” recalls Amaresh. “We were impressed by the care we received, and over the years, our entire family has relied on Emerson for our medical care.”
From routine visits to emergency situations—including a fractured wrist, a bout with appendicitis, and an extended hospitalization for a gastrointestinal issue—the Mahapatra’s consistently find comfort in having top-tier medical care so close to home. “It is reassuring to know that we have the best health care within easy driving distance,” Amaresh says. “The collaboration with Mass General Brigham brings world-class expertise to our community. We never have to go far for outstanding care.”
Giving Back to Strengthen the Future
Having experienced firsthand the high-quality care at Emerson, the Mahapatra’s feel a strong sense of responsibility to support its future. “Now that our family is grown, it is time to give back to the community,” Sadhana explains. “Hospitals require constant updates —new technology, expanded services, improved facilities — to provide the best care. It takes a community to sustain these resources.”
Amaresh, a fiber optics engineer and owner of Linden Photonics in Westford, and Sadhana, who helped grow the business while raising their children, have always valued education, innovation, and community service. In addition to their contributions to Emerson, Sadhana volunteers at the local senior center and remains active in Acton’s cultural and civic organizations.
Investing in Transforming Health
When asked why they chose to support the Transforming Health campaign, the couple point to the hospital’s ever-evolving needs. “Emerson is our hospital,” Amaresh states. “We want to ensure it remains at the forefront of medical advancements. Expanding the Emergency Department and enhancing specialized services like urology and oncology are essential so that people continue to have easy access to the best care and do not need to travel to Boston.”
By investing in Emerson’s future, the Mahapatra’s hope to inspire others in the community to do the same. “It is not just about having a hospital nearby. It is about maintaining a world-class healthcare facility that will serve families for generations to come.”
