Safety Highlight of the Week: Careful Review Prevents a Serious Allergy Event |
A pharmacist’s close review of a patient’s record uncovered a documented flu vaccine allergy that did not carry over across systems. Quick action prevented a potentially serious reaction and reinforced the importance of accurate allergy documentation across platforms. |

| Compliance Minute: Protect Yourself from Phishing Emails |
Cybercriminals continue to target healthcare organizations through phishing emails designed to steal sensitive information or install ransomware. This month’s Compliance Minute explains what phishing is, why it poses a serious risk to Emerson Health, and how to recognize common warning signs. The flyer outlines practical steps you can take to protect yourself and our organization, including how to verify unexpected requests, identify suspicious language, and report potential phishing attempts to the Help Desk.

| Applications Open: Student Volunteer Summer Program at Emerson |
Do you have a son or daughter interested in volunteering at Emerson Hospital this summer? Applications are now open for our Student Volunteer Summer Program, exclusively for employees’ children.
Eligibility Requirements - Must be currently in high school.
- Must be at least 14 years old by June 15.
-
Applications are due by March 27.
Program Benefits - Children of employees receive priority placement and bypass the waitlist.
-
All other relatives or acquaintances of employees must join the general waitlist.
Commitment -
Students must complete 40 hours of service over the summer.
- Schedule options include:
- One 8-hour day per week or
- Two 4-hour shifts per week on a consistent schedule.
Important Considerations
If your child cannot work for more than two to three weeks during the summer due to family vacations or other commitments, we encourage them to apply in a future year to ensure they can fulfill the 40-hour requirement. The summer program runs on a first–come, first–served basis, so spots fill up quickly. Please get in touch with Janet as soon as possible, before March 27. Contact Janet Davis at jadavis@emersonhosp.org for more information. |
